We specialise in choice and unusual alpines and perennials and offer a limited selection of shrubs.
Our business is founded on decades of experience in the nurture of plants.
Helen Knowles, the owner of Tinnisburn Plants, has been growing and selling plants in the area for years.
We sell our stock at RHS Flower Shows along with sales and fairs local to us in Northern England and Southern Scotland.
We grow a wide range of very hardy perennials, they have to be to survive our winters! These especially include Meconopsis, Primula, Thalictrum, Astrantia, Epimedium, Iris, Nepeta and Hosta.
The Garden & Nursery
Our garden covers about 1.5 acres and includes a bit of everything; rockery, woodland garden, herbaceous border, shrubberies, pond and bog garden. There is still a lot of work to do but much progress has been made over the last few years and there is something of interest about all year round. The season starts with snowdrops, over 50 varieties of daffodils, a profusion of Hellebores and then an eclectic mix of perennials and shrubs; some common and some very rare. It's a plantsmans' paradise and it gets better every year.
Our nursery, set on a Scottish hillside, is open to the public on limited days during the summer, as detailed on the Visiting page. Visitors to the nursery are always welcome, where a wider choice of plants are available. As we exhibit at several shows it’s best to phone or e-mail in advance to ensure that we will be at the nursery and not elsewhere in the country with the pick of the stock.
Visitors are welcome to have a look around the garden and we will do group tours by prior arrangement.
